Whenever you upgrade hardware, whether it is on the desktop or in the data center, there are bound to be some software changes that go along with it. In some cases, your hardware upgrades may coincide with an OS upgrade, such as moving from Windows Vista to Windows 7. While such a time may seem chaotic enough on its own, you might also want to consider upgrading your current ERP system or moving to an entirely different one. As a not-for-profit organization, you may not have a lot of funds to continually waste money or time on an ERP system that is no longer helping.
A change to a new ERP system is going to have a dramatic effect on the way your Not-for-Profit is run. Since your organization is going to be transitioning its IT to new hardware anyway, choosing that time to move to a new ERP means you only have one major transition rather than two saving you time and getting you back on track to raise funds for your cause.
Moreover, implementation and training for any new technology will take a great deal of time and money. By combining your ERP implementation with the new hardware upgrade, you can minimize “down time” spent on training in your office.
In some cases, you may only be upgrading your server or replacing your server hardware. This is still a great time to upgrade or change your ERP system. You will likely have to reinstall your ERP system on the new server anyway, so if you plan your budget accordingly, you can move to the new server and install your new ERP software at the same time.
The best reason to consider a new ERP when you are performing upgrades is that it is something you have probably been putting off for a long time. If your Not-for-Profit has been using workarounds and compromising with your ERP system because of its limitations, you are probably overdue for a change. Now may be your best opportunity to make it happen.
